Qur’an – The Book of Allah and His Commandments |
|
|
I will quote-here translation of some commandments from the Holy Qur’an; for the detailed code of conduct laid down in Islam and Allah’s commandments one has to study the Holy Book and Sunnah (practices of the Holy Prophet).

“Oh Muhammad, say to them, come, I will recite what limits your Lord has set for you. |
|
| |
|
- That you should not set up anything as partner with Him.
- You should treat your parents kindly.
- That you should not kill your children for fear of poverty, for We provide sustenance for them also.
- You should not go near indecent things, whether openly or secretly.
- You should not kill any living being that Allah has forbidden to kill, except by right. (For instance, one guilty of intentional murder of another person or one who spreads disorder within the Islamic territory or killing of enemy in Jihad as discussed earlier).
- You should not go near the property of orphans except in the best way, with the honest intention of helping manage it, or managing on his/her behalf untill he/she reaches maturity.
- You should use a full measure and a just balance. We charge one with only that much of responsibility that one can bear.
- Whatever you say should be just, even if it is concerning your own relations.
- You should fulfill your covenant with Allah.
- Treat your parents with great consideration, if either or both of them live with you in their old age, do not say even ‘fie’ to them; treat them with humility and tenderness and pray “Lord be merciful to them just as they brought me up with kindness and affections.”
- Fulfill your obligation towards your relatives, and the indigent and the wayfarer.
- Do not tie your hands to your neck (be miser/parsimonious), nor stretch without any restraint (extravagant), lest you become blameworthy and left destitute. Your Lord provides plentifully to whom He wills and withholds His provisions from anyone He pleases, for He is fully aware of the condition of His servants and observes them closely.
- Do not even go near fornication for it is a very indecent thing and a very evil way.
- Do not be spendthrift because the spendthrifts are the brothers of ‘Satan’ and Satan has been ungrateful to his Lord.
- If you have to put them (the needy persons) off because you are still waiting for Allah's favour that you are expecting (meaning you do not have spare to give them at the time) put them off with tenderness (kind words).
- Keep your pledges, for your shall be accountable for your pledges.
- Do not follow that of which you have no knowledge for you shall be questioned for (the use of) your eyes, ears and minds.
- Do not strut about in the land (showing arrogance, haughtiness or vanity) for you can neither cleave the earth nor attain the heights of the mountains.
- And Allah also enjoins “This way alone is my Right Way; therefore you should follow this way and should not follow other ways, lest they should lead you astray from His Way. This is what Allah has enjoined on you so that you may avoid crooked ways”.
