Qur’an is the text of Allah’s messages as revealed to Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through His messenger, Archangel Gabrial. These revelations were spread over a period of more than two decades, starting with the first revelation when the Prophet was 40 years of age and ending a short time before his death at the age of 63. The revelations were messages mostly in the form of addresses to the mankind. The principal tenets of the faith are
(1) IMAN (FAITH)
A Muslim believes
(I) That there is only one God ‘Allah’, and no other god or partner in His domain and
Allah is the Creator of the universe, and its Sustainer.
(II) (a) That Muhammad (PBUH) is the prophet of Allah.
(b) That Qur’an the Book of Allah, has been revealed to the Prophet to disseminate
and teach Allah’s commandments to the humanity.
(c) That Muhammad (PBUH) is Allah’s last prophet and no apostle or prophet will
come after him.
(d) Belief in all the previous prophets of Allah, from Adam to Jesus and the books of Allah they brought.
(e) Belief in the angels of Allah.
To formally enter into the Faith and become a Muslim one has to recite as follows:
Arabic Version:
| |
“LA ILAAHA IL LALLAAHO, MUHAMMMADUR-RASOOLUL-LAAH” |
Translation in English:
“There is no other god but Allah, and Muhammad is His prophet”
(III) |
There will be the ‘Doomsday’, when the Heaven and earth will fall apart and all living things shall perish, and subsequently be resurrected. It would be the day of reckoning when Allah will reward or retribute the individuals on the basis of their deeds during their life lived on earth. Whosoever had performed noble deeds following the path laid down by Allah through His prophets, shall be rewarded and sent to Paradise while the evil ones and rebels against Allah shall be sent to Hell, for punishment where they shall abide. The day of judgement is predestined because in this worldly life a lot of injustice is being perpetrated on the weak and the poor by the rich and mighty, by haves on the have-nots. This has been going on unabated for ages, and there is no effective way of retribution. And what retribution could be possible in this world when innocent people pass their lives in stark deprivation, are sometimes thrown in prisons, tortured or killed without any fault of theirs. Obviously such crimes can only be appropriately punished in the Hereafter, because Allah is in knowledge of every act of injustice, however trivial it may be, done to anybody, openly or hidden to people’s eyes. The people deserving punishment will be thrown into Hell. Thus also the good done by people, who follow God’s commandments, will be rewarded and they will find a place in Jannat (Paradise). |
