Muslims are stipulated to pay a small share of their wealth to the needy every year, if they have a surplus over their yearly personal and family requirements. This in effect forms a basis for developing the economic conditions of the community and the country, as the money flows from the rich to the poor, keeping the economy rolling. It prevents the concentration of wealth in a few hands. Spiritually too it does a lot of good to the person who goes out to help his fellow human beings. A sense of inner satisfaction and exhileration develops within his soul. Whosoever undergoes this experience knows its spiritual worth. This spiritual feeling develops only in people who help others and give in the name of Allah, and not in those who do it for self-aggrandizement in the peoples eyes and for pomp and show for some wordly rewards. |
