Qur’an – The Book of Allah and His Commandments

AMAL (DEEDS) – TO ACT/EXERT

The DEEDS is not a book of abstract ideas or religious enigmas which may be unravelled in monasteries and universities. It is a book that invites people to act according to the laid down principles and code of conduct in every sphere of worldly life, starting with the very basic fact i.e., faith in Unity of Allah. Apart from the requirement of following the path laid down, the message has to be preached, and propagated. The best way for which is to set one’s own good example. The Quran clearly points out the way; ‘Verily Allah will not change the condition of men, till they change what is in themselves’ (13:10). However in this process of ‘Amal’ Allah helps them who take the initiative and wish to exert.

‘AMAL’ defined, as deeds is the essence of the Islamic way of life. Immediately after a convert accepts Islam, he is required to offer prayers following the very next call for prayers (one of the five in a day). This acts as a practical proof of the fact that he has joined the Faith in real earnest.

The performance of rituals alone however does not make a true Muslim, and one has to accept the Quran as an unchallenged guide of life in all its manifold aspects. The Muslims are not to pay only lip service but to pay a homage of their actions, to exert and commit their whole self on following the laid down path, whole their life, and in various facets of worldly existence i.e. human relations, business and financial dealings, maintenance of law and order etc. etc.
